WPC 2016 Tournament Report from Team VMC Poland

VMC Team Poland achieved an honorable 16th place in the recent World Predator Classic 2016 held in the Netherlands. We asked team manager Piotr Konon how the team were feeling at the end of the competition.

A total of 51 boats competed in the three day lure-fishing tournament. The goal for each day of the tournament is to catch three perch, three zander and one pike, the overall length of the fish being the daily score.  VMC Hooks - Normark Polska Team Rafał Wąsik and Robert Taszarek performed consistently well over the three days, especially in the zander and perch categories, and finished 1st Polish team in the overall rankings.

Piotr Konon, VMC Poland team manager :

"We were proud to represent the VMC brand and our country - Poland - in this exceptional event. We are satisfied by the results, especially considering we finished above many other competitors with a much greater knowledge of the local waters.

Before the tournament we only managed to spend about 15 hours training.  This isn't long enough to locate fishing spots for each species we had to target. We managed to locate the zanders, which finally earned us the 16th place, but the perch and pike, given the lack of time, were hard to find.  Nevertheless, during training we caught quite a few zander between 50 - 75cm, a dozen perch from 40 - 47cm and a 100cm pike.

Apart from the fact we didn't really know the waters, the biggest obstacle for us was the wind.  The use of a traditional anchor was not allowed in the competition, so we could only fish with the GPS anchor on the electric outboard motor. On the tournament day, the windspeed was 15 m/s with gusts of up to 20 m/s.  Our batteries were empty after only 4 hours fishing !

Taking part in WPC 16 was an extraordinary experience for us.  We formed friendships and exchanged our experiences with other anglers. On this note, I'd like to thank our fantastic friends from the Swedish team, Mathias and Mikko [STORM Lures], who gave us a big helping hand with the choice of our fishing spots.

Finally, the thing that most surprised us, was the tremendous wealth of the waters around Hellevoetsluis. The quantity and size of the fish are impressive.

We thank our sponsor VMC for allowing us to compete in this famous tournament and hope to compete again in the future."
